Azimio leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday landed in Mombasa to offer condolences to the bereaved family of Mombasa Cement Limited CEO Hasmukh Patel, who died on Thursday.

Kalonzo said Mombasa and Kenya as a whole has lost one of the most famous philanthropist and industrialist.

He said Patel played a crucial role in Mombasa's tourism industry through his beautification project that saw Mombasa more attractive.

"His most notable beautification work was at Kibarani, which used to be a dumping site. But the work he did made it a very attractive place now," the Wiper leader said.

"We have lost a hero who loved his people. We are heading to his home to give our condolences."

He was accompanied by Jeremiah Kioni, Eugene Wamalwa, Dan Mwashakho, Shakila Abdalla, Senator Enock Wambua, among others.

Wamalwa said Patel was a friend to all.

"He was like the Gen Zs. He was tribeless, partyless, and did not segregate people along religious lines," Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa said he last saw him at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa while he (Wamalwa) was departing for Nairobi about three weeks ago.

"I found him seated at the verandah. I went and greeted him and we talked at length. He told me he would be coming to Nairobi, but by bad luck, that never happened," Wamalwa said.

He said they used to talk about Mombasa's development and potential whenever they met in the coastal city.

"We are here to mourn with his family and the larger Mombasa fraternity who knew his generosity," he said.

Senator Wambua said Patel's work should be emulated by other wealthy people in Mombasa and other cities.
