A Kitui woman whose husband was on Tuesday axed to death by unknown attackers is calling for detectives to ensure the killers are brought to book.
Martha Musyoka’s husband Musyoka Mutonya was attacked on Tuesday night at his Kwa Kathukya village home in Katia, Mumoni subcounty, in Kitui county, where he lived alone.
Martha was living in a nearby homestead.
They are the parents of renowned Akamba gospel artist Fortune Mwikali.
Martha told reporters she was shocked by the cruel, bizarre and ruthless manner the attackers killed her husband.
“It was the most awful and mindless killing. My husband’s head was demolished with a razor-sharp axe. The head had many deep gashes,” she said on Thursday.
She said her husband did not raise alarm because the executor appeared to be an expert killer who ambushed and exterminated him with one blow.
Martha has urged the police to leave no stone unturned to ensure the killers are brought to book and justice served to her and the family.
“As a family, we now leave in intense fear. We are not sure whether whoever executed my husband of 38 years had a beef with him or was targeting our entire family. We are living in fear as a family,” she said.
Martha was speaking to the media for the first time since her husband was murdered.
She said her family solely banked on the government to establish who killed her husband and why.
She was speaking at her home where she recalled that sometimes this year her husband had survived poisoning.
“Not very long ago, in fact early this year, my husband’s drink was spiked with a poisonous substance at a local pub. We rushed him to hospital and his life was saved,” she said.
She said, however, at the time, it was not established what kind of substance was introduced into her husband’s drink as no samples were provided for testing to laboratories and police were not involved.
Martha expressed outrage at an avalanche of social media postings implicating members of her family to her husband’s murder.
“Those are hateful people who want to throw the spanner in the works. We are a close-knit family and none of us would want to hurt the other,” 52-year-old Martha said.
She said she was saddened by reports that were being circulated on social media platforms that her husband could have been sacrificed by a member of her family.
Martha further said it hurts for her children to be implicated in the inhumane death of their father.
“I did not think people could get so heartless and unfeeling. All this information is coming from people who appear to celebrate as my family grieves. I would ask them to seek the truth first before posting falsehoods,” she said.
Mumoni Subcounty police commander Paul Saitoti has indicated that as investigations get underway to unravel the murder, one of his sons was a person of interest.
“The son was the last known person who was with the deceased on Tuesday evening before his body was discovered outside his house Wednesday morning. He will be questioned in the probe,” he said.
Saitoti said on the phone the deceased’s son was with his father for the better part of Tuesday evening and could have some information on how he met his death.
He said the body of Musyoka had deep panga cuts in the forehead. It was found outside his house at 7am on Wednesday morning.
“Police collected the body and took it to Kyuso Level 4 Hospital mortuary. Investigations have been taken over by the Kyuso DCI team,” Saitoti said.
He said the murder weapon has not been recovered. After the death of her father, Fortune Mwikali moved to her Facebook pages to mourn him.
“I do not know what to say. You called me yesterday and we spoke as you called me my mum. Little did I know it was the last phone call from you. You were the only boy just like I am the only girl in our family. Sleep well Dad,” Mwikali posted on her Facebook page.
