Ukambani leaders contesting for various political seats in Nairobi, addressing the press in Machakos county on June 27, 2026.

Kamba politicians eying various elective seats in Nairobi are free to run on any party, and not necessarily the Wiper Patriotic Front headed by Kalonzo Musyoka.

That was the message from over 100 aspirants from the Ukambani region who said all Kenyans have a right to join any political party of their choice.

The aspirants declared support for President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

“I urge all Kambas to join the UDA party ahead of the forthcoming general elections. The constitution guarantees all Kenyans to join political parties of their choice at will. The reasoning that Kambas must be in the Wiper party is a fallacy,” UDA National Elections Board member Mary Mutinga said.

Mutinga claimed that Wiper leadership isn’t inclusive and doesn’t support women.

She accused the party of shortchanging her in the last election.

The leaders who have shown interest in MCA, Member of National Assembly, Woman Representative, Senator and governor seats in Nairobi, said they would contests for the positions on the UDA party ticket.

They spoke during a consultative meeting with Mutinga at her home in Machakos County on Saturday.

The politicians lauded Ruto for what they termed exemplary service delivery and development projects.

They said they were united as Kambas contesting for the positions in Nairobi county. "I urge all Kambas in Nairobi to come together and support President William Ruto. We are supporting his agenda," Mutinga said.

The UDA commissioner said she had earlier held such a meeting for women leaders from Machakos county.

She said their agenda was to help Ruto get more votes not only in Nairobi and Ukambani but across the country.

The leaders resolved to support Ruto and popularise his administration's achievements, especially on development. They mentioned affordable housing, road construction and Nyota Fund as some of the successful projects the government has delivered.

Mutinga encouraged more Kenyans, especially from the Ukambani region to join UDA.

She assured UDA members of free and fair party nominations ahead of the general elections.

Mutinga said the party would use a sophisticated digital election infrastructure in conducting its primaries and that no candidate get the party ticket through the back door.

Nairobi UDA gubernatorial aspirant Patrick Mbangula said they were determined to ensure that all the over 400,000 registered Kamba votes are cast in Ruto's favour in 2027.

"Today we are here to discuss Nairobi politics. We have agreed on a lot of issues as aspirants who will be contesting for various political seats on UDA ticket in Nairobi. We thank Mutinga and UDA party leadership for giving us an assurance that the party will conduct free and fair nominations," Mbangula said.

He encouraged the aspirants to get to the ground and seek votes.

"We support Ruto's leadership. We have witnessed development projects that he has executed which include affordable housing, roads, cleaning of Nairobi River, and Nyota projects. So, as Kamba leaders, we are behind the president. Our slogan is two term," Mbangula said.

He urged Kambas living in Nairobi and who are registered voters in the capital city not to travel to their rural homes during electioneering period.

"Kambas have lots of votes in Nairobi. Over 400,000 registered voters. We have agreed to ensure that all Kambas who have registered as voters in Nairobi vote for Ruto and all Kambas contesting for various political seats including myself. I will be contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat."
