The UDA politicians from Homa Bay have mulled plans to popularize the party and support President William Ruto in the county.
The politicians revealed their plans after meeting the party secretary general Cleophas Malala on Wednesday in Nairobi.
Politicians Evans Kidero, Odoyo Owidi and Martin Ogindo met Malala and mooted strategies for wooing residents to support the party and President Ruto.
The trio crossed over to the UDA party and was rewarded with a state appointment.
Kidero is the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Trade & Investment while Ogindo is the chairman of the Fish Marketing Authority.
Owidi was also appointed to the chairmanship of Lake Victoria South Water Works and Development Agency (LVSWDA).
After meeting Malala, Kidero and Owidi took to their social media accounts to say they are intending to persuade residents to join the party and support President Ruto.
They also shared pictures of their meeting with followers. All the leaders were once allied to the ODM party and its leader Raila Odinga.
Kidero sought Homa Bay gubernatorial seat on the August 9, 2022, general election on an independent ticket after falling out with the ODM party.
Owidi resigned from ODM after he unsuccessfully contested Kasipul's parliamentary seat in the last general election.
Ogindo who was the leader of the Green Congress party of Kenya (GCK) was supporting the presidential candidature of Raila before he decamped to UDA.
Kidero said their agenda was how to make entry into Homa Bay and other Luo-Nyanza counties.
“This morning, I held fruitful discussions with UDA Secretary General Hon Cleophas Malala to discuss the party grassroots invigoration,” Kidero posted.
The meeting seemed to have given impetus to the trio to chart ways of conquering Homa Bay which has been an ODM party stronghold.
Owidi wrote:
“After the strategy meeting, a group photo was necessary. Homa Bay is turning yellow. The secretary general delivered the president’s message.”
Homa Bay UDA coordinator John Odek said their focus is on strengthening the party in the country.
He said the party officials will meet this weekend to discuss how to start a recruitment drive.
“The intention is to open UDA offices in Homa Bay. We'll first open a county office and later open constituency offices,” Odek said.
