National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro has claimed that Kisii and Nyamira counties will benefit from the Kenya Kwanza administration to the excess of Sh20 billion.

The South Mugirango MP said the resources will be in terms of development funding from President William Ruto's first budget.

The highlights of the President's maiden spending estimates were tabled in the National Assembly on Thursday with the government projected to spend Sh3.7 trillion in the 2023-24 financial year.

According to Osoro, at least Sh18 billion would go to region's infrastructure to especially boost the construction of dozens of roads that had stalled due to lack of funds.

"This is definitely a game changer and that is why we must support the president on his endeavors and commitment to develop our country," he said.

The MP was speaking on Friday evening during the burial of a kin - and mother to his driver - at Nyakorere area in his constituency.

In the budget, the national government has for instance allocated Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Sh1.9 billion for the construction of a Cancer Centre.

Osoro said more other funds from the exchequer will fund the last mile electricity connectivity across villages in both Kisii and Nyamira counties.

"This is likely to kick out paraffin lamps from our households," Osoro said.

Speaking to the storm that has been triggered by some of the proposals in the budget, Osoro said amendments will be done to accommodate those who opposed the Finance Bill, 2023.

"The government runs on tax and nothing will run if we can't pay cess. For sustainable development, we must pay tax, there is no shortcut," Osoro said.

He said he still remains optimistic that the Bill will sail through when it is brought to the House on Tuesday for the Third Reading.

"Personally, as Majority Chief Whip my work is to rallying my foot soldiers to support it and ensure it sails through," Osoro stated.
