Suspected motorcycle thief lynched by angry traders in Homa Bay

A suspected boda boda thief has been killed in a mob injustice incident at Nyangweso market within Rangwe subcounty in Homa Bay county.

According to witnesses, Ibrahim Onyango was seen trying to take off with a motorcycle at the market, and an alarm was raised.

He attempted to escape but was captured by the residents, who brought him back to the market and killed him when he admitted to having stolen the motorcycle. 

Onyango was alleged to be among other suspects involved in stealing motorcycles from unsuspecting owners in the area. 

This incident comes after the residents within the Nyangweso area raised concerns over insecurity issues, especially during market days. 

The chairman of Nyangweso market, Micah Osiga, reiterated that thieves have been known to target the market, stealing motorcycles and other valuables, and he criticised the police for their reported slow response in such situations.

Osiga stresses that timely police intervention could have prevented the tragic outcome and called for the establishment of a police post in the area to enhance security.
