The government has revealed a plan to enhance tea farming in Nyamira County by electrifying over 20 tea-buying centres in the county.

Speaking while commissioning Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation Projects in the county, Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi said that this was a sure way of empowering Kenyans through the bottom-up economics model.

On Monday, 580 households in Nyamira County were connected to electricity as well as several tea-buying centres in North Mugirango, Kitutu Masaba and South Mugirango constituencies.

The CS was accompanied by REREC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rose Mkalama and  Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni among other local leaders.
