Kisumu: Boda operator Killed by mob after aiding thief escape unknowingly

A 24-year-old boda boda operator was stabbed to death by an angry mob at Nerea Bridge in Kisumu East Sub-County after allegedly aiding a robbery suspect to escape.

The deceased, identified as Elvis Apollo Ochieng from Bondo, Siaya County, was pursued from Kaego area in Manyatta B slums, where he had picked the suspect who had snatched a mobile phone from a passerby.

According to a police report from Migosi police station, the rider unknowingly carried the suspect on his motorcycle along Kondele-Kibos Road. 

Outraged boda boda operators and passersby chased them down and upon reaching the Kaego area, the suspect jumped off the bike and disappeared, leaving the rider alone.

The mob eventually caught up with Ochieng at Nerea Bridge, where he was stabbed multiple
times in the abdomen and back, bleeding to death.

Police officers from Migosi Police Station, alongside DCI officers from Kisumu East, arrived at the scene and found his body lying in a pool of blood beside the road. 

The police took the body and moved it to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH)
Morgue pending postmortem.

Police have launched investigations into the matter.
