Former Kane secretary general Nick Salat has told Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to be mindful of Kenya as a whole and not Mt Kenya alone.

Salat said that the successive leaders from the region have been empowering them, and it is now time for other regions to also enjoy the national cake just like them.

“The DP should be mindful of how Kenya is and not their region because the people from the so-called Mt Kenya have residences in every corner of this country, thanks to the founding president Jomo Kenyatta. And these are people who should live with other Kenyans and not be segregated,” Salat said.

He spoke to the Star on the phone.

The former Bomet MP added that the DP should stop ‘isolating’ his people by trying to use the mountain to gain fame and pursue his own interests.

“As leaders, there is a need to stop this notion of ‘protecting’ your people and sideline the rest of Kenyans, which is totally wrong. This country belongs to all the people,” he said.

While lauding President William Ruto for tireless efforts to unite all the Kenyans, Salat said such leaders should stop behaving as if they are the only ‘special people’ in this country alone.

“This country's people belong to all the people and no community should itself be superior to any other. We are equal and one,” he remarked.

The former Kanu secretary general wondered why these leaders are trying to ‘isolate’ the Mt Kenya people from other Kenyans who are not only residing in the mountain but they have residences in other regions.

“It is totally ironic for these leaders in the name of pushing the agenda of the people but on the other hand, they want support from other Kenyans who are hailing from the Mt. Kenya region,” Salat said.

The former legislator said that these leaders know very well that stability of this country is the stability for their wellbeing across the country.

“Such divisive politics should not be tolerated in today's society because our unity is the key as a nation. The people from the mountain should not allow leaders to use them by isolating them with the rest of Kenyans and instead join them and build a formidable country under the stewardship of President Ruto,” he said.

The sentiments come at a time when a section of MPs and senators have vowed to table impeachment against Gachagua in what they termed as ‘undermining the government.’

The leaders have pledged to remove the deputy president from office and already more than 200 MPs have signed impeachment against the second-in-command.
