Police in Narok have arrested the main suspect in murder cases that have been reported in Narok and Ololulunga towns in the recent past.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare linked Musa Ole Sopia, alias ‘Olulunga’ to most criminal activities in the area, as CCTV cameras showed clear pictures of him engaging in theft and murder.
The police boss said the suspect was captured by CCTV cameras killing the 55-year-old Congolese watchman at Ololulunga Trading Centre three days ago.
“We have enough evidence to link the man with criminal activities in this town. He once escaped police arrest after committing another murder in town,” Ngare said.
He said the man was arrested wearing the same clothes he wore when he killed the Congolese National and assaulted another person, who is recuperating at the Narok County Referral hospital.
“We believe the suspect is the leader of a criminal gang that has been terrorising people in Narok town and Ololulunga trading centre,” he said.
“Already we have arrested two people, whose cases are active in the court of law. We suspect there are other members of the same gang who are still at large.”
Ngare asked the members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person in their midst to eliminate the criminal gang completely.
The police boss warned those spreading fake news on social media platforms to taint Narok as an insecure place that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
He took issue with a recent publication on social media platforms, with fake information that a lady had been killed and her body parts dumped in Narok town.
“I can assure you we will arrest the person behind the publication. The person has to explain why he or she had to cause panic to the people of Narok by giving such fake information,” he said.
On Monday, traffic was disrupted for hours after irate youth barricaded the Narok-Bomet highway at Ololulunga junction to protest the killing of the watchman.
In August and September, Narok town dwellers raised a public outcry over increased cases of murder as barely a week would end without a person being killed in unclear circumstances.
