Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has
announced the promotion of 1,423 staff of the county, a majority of whom had
stagnated in the same job groups for over 15 years.
The promotions will take effect from February 1,
2025 and will mostly affect long-serving staff of the county, which has over
5,000 employees.
Bii’s move marks the largest one-off staff
promotion in the county since 2016.
The issue of delayed promotions has been a
thorny matter for the employees, especially nurses who recently staged a strike
over the same.
Governor Bii noted that for far too long,
employees had stagnated in the same job groups for over 15 years, with some
falling victim to selective and unfair promotion practices.
“As I pledged earlier when I took over, I have
always prioritized the welfare of our workers, without whom we cannot succeed or
even do anything as a county,” said Bii.
The promoted staff are from all departments of
the county.
The Governor emphasized that the promotion
exercise is in line with his commitment to staff development and aimed at
rectifying past disparities.
He reiterated his administration's dedication
to creating a fair and transparent work environment where hard work and
dedication are consistently recognized and rewarded.
“This initiative is about restoring fairness,
boosting morale, and maximizing productivity within our workforce. We are
committed to nurturing a work environment where merit is rewarded and
opportunities for growth are accessible to all,” he added.
Governor Bii was speaking during a retirees'
party for 79 staff members held at the County Headquarters in Eldoret, which was
also attended by Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea.
He also revealed that his administration is
allocating additional resources in the upcoming financial year to support more
promotions, ensuring continuous career progression and enhancing service
delivery to the people of Uasin Gishu.
Bii urged the workers to rededicate their
efforts to serving residents and supporting his Nguzo Kumi (ten-point)
development agenda for the county.
“As we improve our welfare, let us know that we
are all here for the people of Uasin Gishu, and we should always strive to
ensure that we give our best in serving them,” said Bii
Unions representing the workers and staff
welfare representative Joseph Amdanyi welcomed the move and praised the
governor for being mindful of the welfare of his staff.
”The governor has proved he cares for the
workers same as the people of Uasin Gishu,” said Amdanyi.
