A Bodaboda rider has died in a fight at Makosa stage in Amagoro village, Alupe Sublocation in Busia County.

Confirming the incident, Alupe Sublocation Assistant Chief, Dorcus Okumu said the fight resulted in the death of a man identified as Philip Okochil.

“I received information that there is someone who has been killed. Upon arrival, I found the body of Philip Okachil body lying on the ground. There was a fight between two riders which started as a joke but escalated further leading to the loss of life. It is so unfortunate," he said.

She assured the deceased family that justice will be served urging youth to refrain from unwanted behaviour.

“The suspect fled the scene after the incident but I can assure you that he will be arrested and taken to court. To the bereaved family, I want to assure you that justice will be served,” she said.

Residents led by the village elder, Thomas Mwasame, condemned the incident saying that they have lost a young and humble man.

“We have lost a very humble young man who has been doing his work in a good way. The suspect came to this stage while drunk and he started a fight which led to the death of Philip.

“This stage is called ‘stage Makosa’ and there is a big problem here because there are youth who are always drunk from morning so we want the security agencies to help us by dealing with the issue,” he said.

Christine Emokor, another resident urged the youth to look for alternative ways of solving issues instead of engaging in physical fights.

“It is painful to us as women because the deceased has left a widow and young children. Who will take care of this family? I want to urge the youth to ensure they stay in peace because everyone who is here is trying to look for the daily bread. You should ensure those who are not the operators do not sit here because the suspect was not a bodaboda rider,” Christine said.

Family members of the deceased, led by Lawrance Okochil, called on the government to ensure justice has been served describing their kin as a young and polite man who was hardworking.

“We just want justice for brother. We don’t know why our brother was killed. We want the government to do proper investigations so that the person who killed our brother is arrested and charged.”

The body of the deceased has been taken to Alupe Funeral Home as police embark on a manhunt to bring the suspect to book.
