Residents of Kaberia, Dagoreti South Constituency block the road using stones and burning tires during a demonstration on 4th March 2022 decrying a piece of public land that was previously used as a marketplace, grabbed by a private developer.

Residents of Kaberia in Dagoretti South Constituency, Nairobi County, blocked the road in protest over the alleged land grabbing of public land.

They placed boulders on the road and lit bonfires blocking Kaberia road during the Friday demonstrations. 

According to the residents, the public land that was previously used as a marketplace had been grabbed by a private developer.

They said the ongoing construction had cut links to a public road serving several schools and churches in the area.

Kavera Kimani, one of the residents, said the land once had a cattle dip and borehole for public use.

“We are going to petition through the lands committee in the Senate to ensure justice is served,” he said.

The angry residents blamed the involvement of some politicians and rich individuals in the alleged land grabbing.
