The government has termed illegal the decision by a private developer to acquire Naivasha public land that houses a chief’s office and a police station.

Kasarani estate residents held a peaceful demonstration to protest against the alleged takeover. The developer claims to have a court order to evict more than 500 families.

Subcounty commissioner Isaac Masinde said the issue is shrouded in mystery as police and a chief have occupied the parcel for many years. He said developing the land will adversely affect services. Masinde said he directed the Lands ministry to deal with the issue urgently.

“The developer has issued a seven-day notice to residents, including police and the chief, to move out. Something does not add up,” he said.

Masinde said the administrator and the security team have a crucial role in serving the public. He said they want to establish how the alleged owners acquired a title deed. Masinde urged residents to appeal against the eviction order.
