Police on Wednesday arrested Baringo woman rep aspirant Kaptuiya Cheboiwo over alleged forgery.

Cheboiwo, ex-wife to former CIC chair Charles Nyachae, is accused of forging signatures in nomination papers she was due to present before IEBC.

She needed to present the signatures in order to vie as an independent candidate.

She has been held for questioning at Kabarnet police station as officers investigate.

IEBC county returning officer Mohammed Gurre said Cheboiwo has been disqualified from the August 8 polls as she missed the deadline.

"It was the last day for woman representative aspirants to be cleared by IEBC," he said.

Cheboiwo's supporters expressed disappointment at the developments.

"We learned that she has been arrested, so we had to rush here and up to not we are still camping outside the police station waiting for her release," Mary Biwo said.

IEBC cleared four other candidates to vie for the position in the general elections.

They include Kanu's Gladwell Cheruiyot and CCM's Naomi Torono.

Independent candidates for the woman representative position required 1,000 signatures from supporters to be submitted to IEBC for their bid.
