Lobby calls for more humanitarian response in Covid fight

The NGO said the response will  stop the virus from spreading.

There is need for a coordinated global humanitarian response in the fight against Covid-19 especially the world’s most vulnerable countries, a nongovernmental organization has said.

Kibos International Health Foundation said the response will  protect millions of people and stop the virus from circling back around the globe.

It  said it is through coordinated approach , the war against the spread of the virus can be contained.

The foundation’s director,  Ambrose Kibos said the fight against the coronavirus required concerted efforts by all stakeholders to contain it.

Speaking during donation of facemasks, sanitizers and foodstuff for pupils of Tania Integrated Centre and ole Polos Primary school in Kajiado County, the director urged for collective responsibility to protect vulnerable persons in global battle against the virus.

In a speech read for him by Liud Myla, Kibos said the foundation is at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19, which has proved to be global pandemic out to reverse gains made in access to quality health.

“What needs to be emphasized is that covid-19 is real and I urge you all to observe the Ministry of Health regulations including regular wash of hands, maintaining a safe distance, wearing mask at all times among others in the fight against the spread of the virus,” Kibos said.

He said the foundation was committed to joining hands with other partners on the provision of humanitarian response in the fight against covid-19.

“We are doing this response especially in the vulnerable countries in a bid to protect millions of people and stop the virus from circling back around the globe,” Kibos said.

He noted that the access to any country’s health starts with quality nutrition and called upon all members of the public to observe balanced diet through affordable foodstuffs.

Officials of Kibos International Health Foundation, a Canada Based organization, donate sanitizers, facemasks and food items to pipuls of Tania Rehabilitation Centre in Kajiado County as part of the ongoing efforts in the fight against Covid-19.

The foundation in February, organized a similar event that was held at Gaena Health Centre in Homabay County.

“As a health provision agency, our focus is to provide access to quality and affordable healthcare, besides providing healthcare to the remote regions of the world with an emphasis in Sub-Saharan African countries with scarce and challenging access to medical facilities,” Kibos said.

“Some of our programs include; community outreach programs, mobile clinics, and nutrition as well as infant mortality among others. A health nation is an energetic one in terms of achieving its social economic goals,”  he added.

He added, “In this regard, we are committed to sensitizing members of the local communities on how to attain and sustain quality health.”

Kibos said they would work with other organizations and governments in equipping community health volunteers with skills to safely provide care to Covid -19 infected persons.

"The truth is that when we prevent a disease from spreading, we save thousands of lives. Prevention is better than cure, the saying goes,” Dr Kibos said.

He said that the foundation was creating a model on how to reach as many children as possible with Covid-19 messages.

"What we are doing is to focus our social awareness programs on the virus from the school level, so that the pupils carry the information to their families. This will go a long way in containing the virus," he said.

Director of the Tania Integrated Centre Joseph Kigunda applauded the organization for the initiative saying it will go a long way reducing covid 19 infections.

He expressed his optimism that the partnership with Kibos Foundation will grow and address other negative health indicators in the county. 

Kigunda noted that the facility was confronted with many challenges including lack of adequate infrastructure exposing the children to health related problems.

“As we thank this organization for the gesture, we appeal to the government and other NGOs to chip in and help the institution to help it cater for the needs of its pupils,” Teka said.

Manager in charge of the foundation in Kenya Anacleter Marisim said the organization would work closely with rural communities especially the vulnerable ones in rural areas in addressing health challenges facing them.

“Our organization will work closely with the community in addressing health challenges of the less fortunate members of the society,”  Marisim said.
