A woman suspected to have links with terror group Al-shabaab was on Tuesday evening arrested in Tinderet, Nandi county.
According to the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, police officers based at Soghor police station were tipped off by suspecting members of the public leading to her arrest.
"The villagers’ fears were confirmed when during interrogation after being arrested, the woman told detectives that she had been in Somalia for two years after allegedly being kidnapped by members of the Alshabab terror network in Kilifi, in 2019," Kinoti said.
"She confessed to have been trained on weapon handling skills, hostage taking and use of explosives among other skills."
The woman believed to be 22 years old was cohabiting with a man in Kamalambu village.
DCI stated that the suspect is said to have attended the recently concluded KDF recruitment exercise at different centers.
Kinoti added that Anti-Terror detectives have taken over investigations into the matter and shall be grilling her for more information.
The detectives thanked Tinderet residents volunteered information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
"This kind of mutual partnership between the public and police officers is highly encouraged since a secure nation is our collective responsibility," Kinoti said.
Her arrest comes days after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that security be enhanced across the country after the terrorist attack in Uganda that left several people injured.
The government also advised Kenyans to stay vigilant especially while in crowded places in light of active terror threats.
“We urge citizens to be vigilant while in places with high human traffic and promptly report any suspicious character, behavior, movement or unattended parcels to the nearest police officer or station,” Government spokesman Cyrus Oguna said.
