Bungoma county governor Wycliffe Wangamati has officially joined Azimio la Umoja movement led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Governor Wangamati was among the Ford Kenya party members who wanted Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula out and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi to take over the party leadership.
Speaking in Naivasha in a meeting of governors supporting Azimio la Umoja, Wangamati assured the ODM leader of his support.
He said he will do his best to ensure Raila succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 9, polls.
“I also stand here to join the council of governors as the governor of Bungoma County and pledge my support and commitment as we have agreed to support Raila to become the 5th President,” Wangamati said.
The ODM leader in his speech urged governors supporting Azimio la Umoja to be good champions of the movement.
He urged them to push their residents in their respective counties to register as voters so that they can have numbers that will enable them to win elections.
“When you go back in your respective counties make sure people are registered as voters so that we can have numbers that will help us win the election,” he said.
Raila added that Azimio la Umoja seeks to unite Kenyans irrespective of their religion, clan and tribe.
“We want Kenya to be united, let’s stop forming groups that isolate us from the rest and divide us between the rich and the poor,” the ODM boss added.
