Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s
allies Thursday evening visited the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road to report
an alleged abduction of former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa speaking outside the
headquarters claimed the former legislator was abducted when suspected goons
disrupted a funeral ceremony in Limuru where Gachagua was also in attendance.
The senator claimed the fracas was an attempt on Gachagua’s
life.
“We truly believe it was a well-planned incident because
there were some 200-300 goons from different parts of this country, not
necessarily from Limuru, that attacked the former Deputy President," he said.
“So we are here to say that it was an attempted
assassination."
Thang’wa said they went to the DCI to report the two
incidences, but they were not given any information.
Nyandarua Senator John
Methu said Gachagua was at home but not okay following the chaos that erupted
at the funeral ceremony.
“I will not say that he’s okay. Stones were thrown into his
car; infact, I would say that Rigathi Gahchagua is lucky to be alive today,” he
said.
“If you look at the young men who followed him to his vehicle,
had he sat on the ordinary left side of his car, he certainly would have been
hurt badly. I have talked to him, and you can feel he is not very okay."
In a statement on his X feed, Gachagua condemned the Limuru
incident; the decision to
withdraw his security by the state was to leave him exposed to that kind of
attack.
“The
gangsters were armed with stones, machetes, iron bars, & sticks. They descended randomly on mourners present and attacked
them using the weapons they had. A specific group followed me as I went to my
car, which they proceeded to attack with stones and iron bars. We literally
drove out of the venue under a hail of rocks,” the former DP said.
“This is a very sad state of affairs and a major low for the State, who were clearly complicit in these actions," he said.
Gachagua
said expectations are that the events witnessed in Limuru will not be repeated
and affirmed that he will not be intimidated into silence.
“We will not be scared away from standing with Kenyans who need us to support them in their moments of need."
