Newly appointed Kenya Army Commander Mbogo sworn in

The board promoted five other officers of the rank of brigadier to Maj General.

President Uhuru Kenyatta oversaw the swearing in of the newly appointed Kenya Army Commander Lt Gen Peter Mbogo at State House, Nakuru.

Uhuru appointed Mbogo as Kenya Army Commander after the retirement of Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton on Wednesday.

Lt Gen Koipaton served four tours, after his appointment on July 13, 2018.

Lt Gen Mbogo has served as an Aide-de-Camp to both the late President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru. 

The president announced the changes following a meeting by Board One in the military.

Lt Gen Njiru had last year been posted to defence staff college and appointed commander.

The board promoted five other officers of the rank brigadier to Maj General.

Maj Gen David Tarus was promoted and named the General officer command of Western Command to replace Maj Gen Joseph Kivunzi who retired.

Maj Gen Juma Shee Mwinyikai was appointed the new Commander of East Command to replace Maj Gen Ayub Matiri who was in April named the Kenyan ambassador to Egypt.

Maj Gen Fredrick Leuria was named the assistant chief of defence forces in charge of operations, plans, doctrine and training.

Maj Gen Mungai Nyaga was named the force commander of the East African Community regional force for DRC. Maj Gen Bernard Waliaula was named the director of defence national security industry. 

Among those who attended were the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) top brass led by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Robert Kibochi.

Others were Kenya Air Force Commander Maj. General John Omenda and Kenya Navy Commander Maj. General Jimson Mutai as well as Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Defence) and Ukur Yatani (National Treasury).

At the same time Uhuru oversaw the investiture ceremony for the recently promoted Brigadier Zipporah Kalondu Kioko and Brigadier Alice Muringo Mate.

Uhuru commended the newly promoted KDF senior officers and wished them success in their new positions.
