8 people critically injured in Machakos road accident

Eight people sustained serious injuries while nine others were slightly injured during the accident.

Eight people have sustained serious injuries following a road accident in Machakos County.

Machakos County Emergency Services director David Mwongela said nine other people got minor injuries following the accident that happened along Machakos – Kitui road at Kaseve area in outskirts of Machakos town on Saturday.

“Seventeen people, among them eight, with serious injuries have been rushed to Machakos Level Five hospital,” Mwongela said.

The accident happened in the morning hours.

The self–involved incident involved a 42 – seater minibus that was headed to Wote town in Makueni County through Mbooni town.

The bus according to Mwongele was from Nairobi City.

Mwongela said the vehicle lost control thereby veering off the road and leading to the accident.

“The vehicle’s driver lost its control before it veered off the road while negotiating sharp corners of Kaseve black spot area in Muvuti location, Machakos town sub-county,” he said.

He said the accident might have been caused by the slippery road.

The vehicle landed in a ditch before its occupants were rescued and the victims were rushed to the hospital.

Passengers who escaped from the accident unhurt proceeded with their journeys in separate vehicles.

Machakos County rescue team and members of the public assisted police officers in the rescue mission.

There were no reported deaths at the scene of the accident.

The wreckage was towed to Machakos police station pending inspection.

Police have launched investigations into the accident.
