Rarienda MP-elect Otiende Amollo has dropped his interest in the National Assembly deputy speaker position.
Otiende stepped down in favor of Dadaab MP-elect Farah Maalim.
"I had expressed interest for Deputy Speaker NA. In the interest of our Coalition and Collegiality, I withdraw in Favour of Hon Farah Maalim for Deputy Speaker NA. Thank you all who supported me," he said.
Other MPs- elect who have expressed their interest in the position include Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Shollei, Imenti Central MP-elect Moses Kirima and Homa Bay Town's Peter Kaluma.
A statement released on Wednesday by the National Assembly said Wajir West MP-elect Farah Yussuf Mohamed has also applied.
A notice released by President Uhuru Kenyatta said the members of the 13th Parliament will elect their Speaker and Deputy Speaker on Thursday.
The election of the speaker and deputy speaker is the first order of business of the house after MPs-elect are sworn in.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 126 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint that the First Sitting of the Senate (and National Assembly) shall be held at the Main Parliament Buildings in the Senate Chamber, Nairobi, on September 8, 2022, at 9.00 am,” the notice reads.
