More than 100 students from Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet county were on Saturday evening rushed to hospital due to shock after a fire broke out at the teachers' quarters.
Kaplong Mission Hospital medical superintendent Stanley Kiplangat said no student suffered burns.
"No student was burnt or had breathing problems. They were brought here as a result of shock after the fire gutted 15 temporary structures,” he said.
“Most of the students were discharged from hospital on Saturday night and those still in hospital are those who had other conditions like chest problems. We are still monitoring and managing them here.”
The doctor said they had sent counsellors to the school to talk to students.
“The students were taken through counselling sessions and advised on how to manage and deal with emotions after the unexpected incident,” Kiplangat said.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault in one of the houses.
Members of the public, Bomet county disaster department and school staff had a hard time containing the fire that razed down 15 temporary structures.
The fire extinguisher from Bomet county government had difficulties accessing the scene.
When news of the fire was reported, parents rushed to the school and camped at the gate for the better part of the Sunday trying to find out if their children were okay.
