Long serving Kanu secretary general Nick Salat has resigned from the party, months after his fallout with party leader Gideon Moi.
His resignation comes a week after the party expelled Salat, following a disciplinary process.
In a letter seen by the Star, Salat termed his expulsion by the party unlawful.
"It is in my position that my purported dismissal from the position of Secretary General as communicated through the press was unlawful and against the rules of natural justice.
"However, and pursuant to section 14 of the Political Parties Act, I hereby with a heavy heart but with a clear conscience, tender my resignation from the Kanu party effective the date specified hereunder," reads the letter.
The resignation is effective February 17, 2023.
In a meeting held in Mombasa, chaired by the party's chairman Gideon Moi, it was resolved that Salat be immediately expelled from the party on claims of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution.
"That the report of the National Disciplinary Committee recommending the immediate expulsion of Nick Salat from the position of the Secretary-General of the party on account of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution is unanimously adopted," Kanu director of communications Joseph Towett said.
Salat who had been suspended as the party secretary general had failed to show up before a KANU disciplinary committee.
He was suspended from the party on December 15 following a national executive council meeting in Nakuru.
