Azimio la Umoja Coalition leader Raila Odinga alighting from a matatu in Nairobi' CBD on July 10, 2023

After months of unsuccessfully trying to access Nairobi's CBD and address his supporters over the high cost of living, Azimio leader Raila Odinga has finally made way with ‘close to none police interruptions’.

On Monday, the ODM party leader kept aside his luxurious lifestyle of moving around with big cars and joined other Kenyans in using public transport.

Dressed in Kaunda suit which was blue in colour (the Azimio Coalition's signature colour), Raila boarded a matatu from the posh Karen estate with his final destination being the CBD.

Although he was accompanied by former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Raila was comfortably seated with members of the public in the matatu.

All this time, there were no police chase cars and was a normal trip from Karen to town.

On arrival at CBD, Raila alighted around the Ambassadeur which is between Tom Mboya Street and Moi Avenue.

Raila being someone that people cannot fail to easily spot, addressed a crowd of people without any police interference.

He then proceeded via Mama Ngina Street and entered a restaurant to have a meal. He was joined by some Nairobi MCAs, with whom he shared a meal.

Outside the premises, crowds gathered waiting for the former Prime Minister to address them.

It has always been a cat and mouse -kind of exercise whenever Raila attempted to enter the city centre to protest the high cost of living.

Tear gas, water cannons and police officers have always been able to stop the ODM leader save for Friday when he successfully manoeuvred through the City centre.

The visit was, however, short-lived as he didn't make a stopover and headed straight to Jaramogi Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill.

This was after a rally at Kamukunji Grounds where the Azimio leader gave the way forward to his supporters.
