Sports CS Salim Mvurya has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction works at the Raila Odinga International Stadium.
Speaking during a follow-up inspection visit, Mvurya said the project remains on track ahead of major continental tournaments.
Mvurya, who has been closely monitoring progress at the facility, reported that significant strides have been made since his previous inspection.
“Today was part of a follow-up visit just to check and confirm the implementation of some areas that we have agreed with CAF. I’m very happy with the progress that has happened, and I want to confirm to Kenyans we are making good progress,” he said, underscoring government confidence in the pace of implementation.
He noted that most of the major construction activities at the stadium are expected to be substantially completed by the end of July this year.
The facility is being developed to meet international standards and is expected to play a key role in Kenya’s preparations for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
“Continuous works are currently ongoing, including turf management and landscaping at the main playing pitch as well as the football training grounds. These upgrades are aimed at ensuring full compliance with requirements set by the Confederation of African Football ahead of the tournament,” the CS said.
Officials say the pitch and surrounding infrastructure are being developed to meet strict CAF standards, with emphasis on player safety, drainage systems, seating capacity and overall match readiness.
