Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has stated that Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport) and Davis Chirchir (Energy) should resign after the nationwide blackout.
Speaking on Tuesday, Maanzo said that the two CSs failed in their respective dockets and should not be in office at the moment.
"Chirchir and Murkomen should resign. There is no way you should risk the lives of so many people and still stay in office," he said on KTN News.
The Wiper Senator explained that the damage caused by the blackout was serious and the two CSs should take responsibility.
"There are always frustrations when the lights just go off in an airport. It risks life and safety. Life safety should be a priority for these people," Maanzo said.
The Senator noted that the company and the whole energy sector have not given any update on the blackout until now.
"They have been jokers and it has become so common that they take it as a normal thing whenever there is such a huge damage," Maanzo added.
He explained that the hotel industry also made losses due to the unexplained power outage not forgetting hospitals and businesses that underwent losses.
Maanzo noted that people also risk being sick if they consume food that had been stored in hotels during the blackout.
"That damage is huge and people should take responsibility. It's time that Kenya Power starts compensating people, especially in matters where loss is due to negligence. In my opinion, Chirchir and Murkomen should have resigned by now," he added.
On Friday and Saturday, Kenya experienced power outages in various parts of the country including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
