Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come out to defend himself with 'receipts' after allegations that he played PR with Conjestina Achieng's case.

Sonko said that he did his best to help the ex-Kenyan boxing champion.

Sonko's sentiments come after media personality Carol Radull revealed that Conjestina had relapsed after visiting her at her rural home in Yala.

Sonko claimed that despite his efforts, Conjestina's family watered down his efforts to help the former boxer.

He, however, said that he might give Conjestina a third and final chance at rehabilitation.

The former Nairobi Governor also rubbished reports that he only did a Public Relations gimmick with Conjestina's case.

"I have seen a post by my good friend Carol Radull on Conjee, which attracted both positive and negative reactions from the public. Others were criticising and accusing me of playing PR and vipindiree. Kenyans, I did my best to help Conjee, but her family watered down my efforts.

"Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself. At times, I fail to control it for the love I have for the people, especially the less fortunate, and I think this is the reason I initially gave Conjee the first, second, and now maybe I will be forced to give a third and final chance again coz I'm always serious with all the cases we undertake and since we always document and account for the progress of all our sensitive cases," Sonko said.

According to Radull, Conjestina had only been home for two months and was already relapsing.

The media personality said that she also encouraged Conjestina to try and get herself together.

She added that many have tried to help the former boxing champion but none had succeeded including her.

"On 2nd Jan I visited my friend Congestina Achieng in her shags in Yala. She's been there about 2 months and is back to her same lifestyle. She has good days and bad days. When I arrived she was having a bad day but her face lit up when she saw me and we chatted for a long time as best we could. I tried with my layman's ability to gently encourage her to "clean up her act". Many have tried to help her but none of us have succeeded in a long-term solution to her predicament," Radull said.

She added that all she can do now is be Conjestina's friend and visit her whenever she can.

Radull called on well-wishers who will happen to visit Yala to try visit her and encourage her to change.

"I concede it's out of my capability What I can do though is be her friend. Visit her when I can. Call her Mum from time to time to check in on them. If you are ever in the Yala area; drop in and say hey."

Radull also said Sonko helped where he could.

"This man did all he could to help my friend Congestina Achieng."
