Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s ODM membership recruitment drive in Bungoma County was marred with fracas from rowdy youths who disrupted his Posta ground meeting.
Rowdy youths who were chanting ‘Weta’ ‘Weta’ rained stones on the ODM delegates meeting that was ongoing at Posta grounds.
Raila in his address condemned the chaos noting that he will not be cowed.
Addressing the chaos, ODM SG Edwin Sifuna condemned the attacks saying it is an outdated mode of politicking.
“Those dishing out handouts to the youths to throw stones at us and distract our peaceful meetings aren’t gentle enough. Nowadays the political style has changed, we compete with brains not throwing stones,” Sifuna said.
Raila acknowledged his supporters who have shown loyalty even after losing the 2022 general elections.
He affirmed that the coalition is still intact trashing his opponents for fueling propaganda that there is a crack in Azimio.
“Our great work is Azimio la Umoja. We are there to ensure that Kenyans are accessing quality Education, and health care and not burdened with heavy taxes,” Raila stated.
He added that together with other leaders, he has embarked on strengthening ODM at the grassroots.
Raila opposed Ruto’s plan to enter into talks with the Judiciary arguing that it is an independent institution that should be allowed to carry on its duties.
“There should not be any talks between the Judiciary; the executives of each institution should carry out its duties,” he said.
Raila was accompanied by other ODM leaders among them MPs Jack Wamboka (Bumula), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Raphael Wanjala (Budalangi), Caleb Hamisi (Saboti), Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands) Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya among others.
The leaders said that President Ruto is a product of the Judiciary and should therefore support it to deliver its mandate.
“We wonder when we see President William Ruto sustaining attacks on the Judiciary. Instead, he should support it to carry out its duties,” said Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.
