Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has raised concern over what she termed a growing trend where men who are as old as over 40 are not married.

The Deputy President’s couple described it as a serious crisis and pointed out that alcoholism which she is fighting so hard to free men and boys from is largely to blame.

So bad is the situation, she said, that some areas have no early childhood classes because men are unable to sire children.

“I have seen a serious crisis in the men world where you find now there are men who have not even married at 40, 55 and that is a serious thing for a mother,” she said.

“Imagine you are 45, 50, your mother will not even be there to see your children if you will be there. But some of them now are dying on us, the others cannot produce. The transformers are already burnt off.”

Pastor Rigathi spoke on Wednesday when she hosted the Shujaa 7s team at the Deputy President’s Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi.

She said her efforts to rescue men from alcoholism are paying off as some of those who had dived deep into drunkenness are reforming although some are yet to see the light.

This, she said, is destroying the marriage institution as men fail to perform their marital duties.

“My job is to recharge them (transformers),” she said amid loud giggles from the crowd.

“And they are coming alive, I can tell you for free.”

Pastor Rigathi said the situation of men failing to rise to the occasion in the bedroom may sound funny but it’s a serious societal problem that requires urgent attention.

“I can take you to a place where there are no children in Std 1 to Std 3. What does that tell you,” she posed, “And there are men around.”

“Zilichomeka kitambo!” Pastor Dorcas said.

In her counsel to men, the DP’s spouse said Kenya’s economy needs their input but it will not be turned around by drunkards.

“This is my counsel and my advice, as much as funny as it may look, it is the truth. I just want to tell you to remain clean.”

Pastor Dorcas has been running a campaign where she focuses on rehabilitating men wallowing in alcoholism and drug abuse, especially in Central Kenya where the problem is rampant.
