Late Marathon World Record holder Kelvin Kiptum's wife Asenath Rotich broke down on Friday as she revealed details of their planned wedding in April.

Speaking at Kiptum's funeral service, she said that while they had their plans, God's plan remains greater.

"We have been planning for our big day to tie the knot in a colour wedding ceremony in April 2024 but God's plans are greater," she said amid tears.

She said that even in  Kiptum's death she will still make the vows of love.

Asenath added that Kiptum was the best husband and father to their children.

"I'll still make my vows of love even in your rest. When your star was growing to be the brightest God chose you. You have been the best husband and father to our children.

"I'll clearly miss your company. We'll smile again my love," she added.

Kiptum's left his Chepsamo home for the Chepkorio showground where a funeral service is currently ongoing.

President William Ruto is among the leaders expected to attend the ceremony.

World Athletics head Sebastian Coe is also present at the funeral service.

The body of Kiptum was removed from Eldoret Hospital morgue Thursday and escorted to Iten where the public had an opportunity to view.

It was put to rest overnight at his house in Chepsamo as per tradition.

He is set to be interred at his new home in Naiberi in Uasin Gishu.

He died in an accident on February 11, 2024, alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana.

Hakizimana was laid to rest at Rusororo cemetery on Wednesday.
