The funds drive is meant to aid the construction of a new church at Chelelemuk Catholic Parish.

From the ODM wing, those in attendance include Busia Governor Paul Otuoma, and Teso North MP Oku Kaunya.

The fundraiser comes at a time when both ODM and UDA are repositioning to take control of Busia County as the country moves towards holding the 2027 general election.

Teso North where the event is being held is represented in parliament by Kaunya who was elected in 2022 on an ODM party ticket.

It also comes after a host of ODM leaders from Nairobi have been traversing Busia to wrestle UDA presence in the county.

But UDA officials in the border county have also been crisscrossing the county to topple the opposition party from the county that borders Uganda.
