Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has told lawmakers to prepare for the worst-case scenario as the youth are determined to punish them for not demonstrating leadership.

Olekina said he was sure the youth, over the next few months, would show them how they want to be led.

“We have failed because we are corrupt and only care about ourselves. If in the next two months, we meet our fate or we are doomed, so be it, because we surely deserve it,” he said.

In a video posted on X, the lawmaker said the youth seem determined to render Members of Parliament both of the National Assembly and Senate and the Judiciary and Executive null and void.

“We turned into animals, people who only care about themselves,” Olekina said, as he urged legislators to plead for forgiveness from the youth.

The senators alleged that the Executive arm of the government is being controlled by outside forces, specifically international lenders.

“They are coming up with policies which are so foreign, which end up destroying the integrity, structures of our nation. Foreign powers come and tell us to convert freehold title into leasehold, and you don’t care about the consequences or the unintended consequences,” he stated.

He added that politicians should not lead just for the sake of it. “Let us care about future generations.

“There is something called intergeneration fairness. Anything we do should be for generations to come,” he said.

Olekina said MPs should remember that they are not where they are because the President elected them.

“He too went out there and asked for votes. But the moment we get there, you know and I know very well, we are enticed with money. We are given tokens and told to pass this Bill for some little money. You then buy the most expensive bottle of whisky and dine in the best restaurants,” he added.

Olekina said it is this behaviour that annoys the youth.

“I watched a woman who just lost a child, cursing us. Is that what we want? Can we look back and ask ourselves if what we are doing is right,” he posed.

He advised leaders in the legislative arm of government to think about the future of the country.

“Let us not just vote for the sake of voting. Let us stop worshipping our party leaders and the Executive.”
