A minor has died after she was poisoned by her biological mother at Kaseve village in Masinga, Machakos County.

The six-year-old, according to the police, was pronounced dead following the incident that occurred in Masinga County on Monday.

Police said both the 25-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter have been admitted to Embu Level 5 hospital, where they are receiving medication.

The incident was reported to Masinga police station shortly after it occurred.

“The 25-year-old woman reportedly poisoned her two daughters aged nine and six years at Kaseve village in Kyondoni sublocation in Kivaa location, Masinga subcounty in Machakos. She also took the poison in an attempt to end her own life,” a police source told the Star by phone hours after the incident.

Police said the matter was reported to the station by Kyondoni assistant chief Ruth Munguti.

“Residents are said to have heard screams emanating from a nearby bush and responded to the distress call only to find the three lying on the ground,” the police said.

The trio were rushed to the Kyondoni dispensary and transferred to Kivaa health centre, both within Masinga subcounty, where the six-year-old girl was pronounced dead.

The woman, together with her other daughter, were later transferred to Embu Level 5 hospital.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
