A total of 147,510 Machakos residents have registered for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
This has been attributed to the coordinated efforts of the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) and Community Health Promoters.
This emerged on Friday during a meeting between PS Public Health Mary Muthoni and Machakos Deputy County Commissioner David Rotich.
The remarkable number underscores the critical role NGAOs are playing in advancing public health initiatives.
Since the mobilisation drive began on September 28, NGAOs have worked closely with CHPs to sensitise 193,116 individuals about the benefits of SHIF, resulting in high registration numbers.
Beyond SHIF registration, the meeting also touched on important public health concerns, including Mpox prevention.
"The discussion also covered collaboration on Mpox prevention to ensure the county is prepared to address emerging health threats," the Ministry of Health said.
"In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the focus shifted to raising awareness about cancer and promoting early detection," it added.
The ministry has underscored the critical role chiefs and CHPs continue to play in these public health efforts.
