Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have maintained that the party has not
entered into any form of agreement with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Led by
national chairperson Gladys Wanga, the party leaders said ODM is still an
Opposition party.
“Let me make
it clear that we have no coalition agreement with Kenya Kwanza. For you to
merge, there must be an agreement, a memorandum saying who will do what,” she
said.
Mombasa Governor
Abdullwamad Sherrif Nassir expressed confidence that ODM will form the next
government.
“We will
form the government in 2027 but as of now, ODM is an opposition party and we
are not in government,” he said.
“We are
proud that in the National Assembly and the Senate, we are called minority
party. We will not shy away from that. We may be a few in Parliament but we
have many people supporting us in the grassroots.”
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mungáro said ODM members working for President William Ruto
will return to the party after Kenya Kwanza’s first term.
“They are
there to help Ruto’s administration. They
are just like football players who have been loaned to another club. After the league ends, they will come back to
our team,” he explained.
In July, Ruto
appointed four ODM members as CSs to his Cabinet: John Mbadi (National Treasurer), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Ali Hassan
Joho (Mining) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives).
On Wednesday,
Wanga said ODM will field candidates in all positions in the next-generation
elections.
She said
they will continue to build the party and unite as they move forward.
"Our
part will sweep seats starting from MCAs, MPs, Senators, and Governors, and we
are not going to leave any seats, including the presidency of this
country," she added.
"This is our home and this is what we will build; we are not confused at all. ODM stands alone as a party, a movement for the people and we will speak for the people and stand with them; move under the guidance of Raila Odinga, having left for us now, the acting leader is Anyang Nyong’o."
