Safaricom to refund your first transaction fees of the day

Giant Telco Safaricom will refund the transaction fee for your first M-PESA send money transaction of the day.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Safaricom said this is to celebrate 24 years since its inception.

"Asante kwa miaka 24. Get your transaction fee refunded for the first send money transaction today," Safaricom said. 

In the post, Safaricom said users can use Mpesa App or dial *344# to send money.

"This promotion ends today," it said.

The CEO Peter Ndegwa thanked Kenyans for their continued support.

"As Safaricom marks 24 years of connecting Kenyans, i want to take a moment to thank you, our loyal customers for making US part of your lives Because of you, we have grown from a telco to a cornerstone of innovation, empowerment, and progress in Kenya," he said.

"Your trust and unwavering support have inspired us every step of the way. Together, we are co-creating a future tull of possibilities and we remain committed to walking this journey with you.|"

Ndegwa promised to keep innovating. growing, and being the partner that heips Kenyans.

"We shall help you reach your dreams. Asante sana for believing in us ," he said.

Early this year,  Safaricom announced a Sh 139.9 Billion in its earnings before interest and tax in the period ending March 31, 2024.

At a group level, incorporating the startup costs and investments in Safaricom Ethiopia, the group closed at an EBIT of KES.94.9 billion, a 3.5% growth year on year.

The earnings surpassed both the market expectations and the group guidance range of Sh129 billion-132 billion.

"This performance was driven by customer segmentation, public sector digitisation, investments in new technologies and better use of data and analytics to understand and serve customers better," the firm said.

The firm has been growing and awarding its customers each year as they celebrate their birthdays. 

When Safaricom turned 20 years old, all Safaricom customers enjoyed one free call of up to 20 minutes

Each customer received a notification a day before to alert them of their free call. Customers who had been on the Safaricom network for 20 years as well as customers received a free 20GB data bundle valid for 7 days.

Customers purchasing personalized Tunukiwa voice offers also received a free 20-minute call across all networks.

Both offers were available on USSD *444# under the ‘Buy Minutes’ option.

“In the past two decades, Safaricom has grown from a telecommunication service provider to a technology company and our customers have been a key part of this journey. We are cognizant that technology and a data-driven economy can further support Kenya’s economic growth and these will be our launchpad for the next 20 years,” said Peter Ndegwa, the Safaricom CEO when they celebrated 20 years.
