Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is a man who has kept his family out of the public eye.

However, his swearing-in ceremony at KICC on Friday, November 1, provided Kenyans with a long-awaited opportunity to see his wife in the spotlight at least for the first time.

Until that moment, little was known about the woman who would soon take on the esteemed title of Second Lady.

Dr Joyce Kindiki rocked the occasion in a stunning cream-colored skirt suit matched with heels that symbolised elegance and grace.

Joyce stood by her husband’s side, holding the Constitution firmly throughout the ceremony, also holding hands while walking.

After taking an oath, Kindiki while giving his speech thanked his wife, commending her sacrifices and unwavering support. Together, according to him, they have sired three children.

"I want to thank my wonderful wife, Joyce—a woman who sacrificed a career of her own to raise our three children, Imani, Emma, and Mwende,” he said.

“Many days and nights of my absence in service to this nation were made possible by her support.”

The two got married in 2001.

A search on her LinkedIn account shows that she holds a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry.

She is currently a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, a position she has held since 2014.

As the Second Lady, she will be expected to play a crucial role which includes supporting her husband to ensure his success.

Joyce now takes on the role that was formerly held by Dorcas Gachagua, who advocated for the boy child and supported drug rehabilitation efforts.

Kenyans are eager to see what projects and initiatives Joyce Kindiki will launch as she enters her new docket as a second lady.
