President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at KICC during Kindiki's swearing-in, November 1, 2024.

A light-hearted moment was witnessed during a photo session between President William Ruto and his new Deputy Kithure Kindiki during the swearing-in ceremony in KICC.

Ruto was captured signaling Kindiki with his elbow to smile as they posed for a photo.

"Wewe smile," Ruto gestured to him amid laughter from the crowd.

This was after he handed over a ceremonial copy of the constitution to him.

"Your excellencies, if you could remain on stage for a brief photo session to commemorate this event," a judiciary official pronounced following the administering of the oaths.

Chief Justice Martha Koome witnessed the event held at the KICC on November 1.

Kindiki replaces Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached. He becomes the third deputy president in the country under the 2010 constitution to occupy the office.

In his address, the ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary committed to assisting the president in undertaking his duties.

"I want to commit to you before this congregation and the almighty God that I will serve under you and provide you with the assistance and support you require to take this country to the next level. I commit that I will be loyal and faithful," he said.

"I will try to the best of my ability to work hard together with my other colleagues to lighten the burden that you (Ruto) carry on your shoulders."

Ruto on his part said he needs Kindiki’s intelligence to help the Cabinet profile the things they are doing.

He noted that he has become a lonely voice in the country’s executive and needs the former Interior CS to help him in talking about state projects.

“I need your intellect to help me and to help members of our cabinet to profile the things we are doing, to speak to the things that we are doing, I have almost become a lonely voice in the executive, especially in the presidency, speaking about our projects, speaking about our programs, elaborating on what we are doing. You are eloquent, my brother. You are intelligent, my brother, I am confident that you will do that, which I have missed for the last two years,” Ruto said.
