Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale
At least five board members of the Kenya Water Towers Agency (KWTA) appointed last year have been dismissed and reassigned to new roles.
In a Gazette Notice dated November 8, Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale revoked the appointment of the five leaving the agency with only one member.
The five, Rose Ombaki, Adan Omar Enow, Florence Auma Oluoch, Michael Waititu Maina and Elisha Busienei, have been in office since January 18.
They were appointed by the then Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry revokes the appointment...vide Gazette Notice Nos. 6295, 7515 and 7706 of 2023,” the notice reads in part.
They were to serve for a period of three years.
KWTA was established in 2012 and mandated to coordinate and oversee the protection, rehabilitation, conservation and sustainable management of water towers in the country.
In their new roles, Ombaki is set to serve on the board of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) while Adan will sit in the Council of the North Eastern National Polytechnic board.
Their appointments were made by Cabinet Secretaries Margaret Ndung’u (Information) and Julius Migos respectively.
Oluoch on her part has been named by the Treasury Cabinet Secretary as a member of the Consolidated Bank Limited as Maina joins the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority until May 2026.
Busienei will be chairperson of the Board of Directors of the School Equipment Production Unit (SEPU) in the new appointment made by President William Ruto.
He will also serve for a period of three years.
He replaces Patrick Musyoka.
SEPU, headquartered inside University of Nairobi’s Kenya Science Campus, is a government agency under the Ministry of Education.
Its mandate is to design, manufacture, supply, and distribute science materials and apparatus to educational institutions in the country.
It is the home to the Mobile Laboratory, Integrated Science Kits, laboratory Chemicals, Glassware’s, and general apparatus.
