Shooting incident.

Multi-agency teams are pursuing a suspected terror gang that shot and wounded a motorist in Disso, Garissa County.

The survivor told police they were along Hagadera-Garissa road and on reaching Dadere junction within the Fafi sub-county, a group of men in military attire confronted them and shot at their vehicle.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon, police said.

The other occupants of the car sped off with the injured victim to Disso police camp and reported the matter.

They told police the gang had tried to stop them but they defied the orders.

Police said the victim sustained a gunshot wound in the upper part of the right arm.

The vehicle they were using is said to have been carrying goods, which police termed as contraband.

The injured was escorted to Garissa County Hospital where he was treated and admitted in stable condition.

The motor vehicle had two holes in the windscreen and at the right passenger window suspected to have been caused by bullets.

Police say they are pursuing the gang operating in the area which has been behind a series of attacks on the road.

The gangs could be local militia or al-Shabaab militants who cross from the porous Kenya-Somalia border.

Multi-agency teams are combing the area to pursue the gangs.

Police have increased operations in the region to tame plans by the terror group to establish bases and attack targeted areas.

This is part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations by security agencies in the wider North Eastern Region which police say have been fruitful in thwarting terrorism attacks and securing the locals who have vowed to enhance their cooperation in the fight against the terrorist group.

There are terror threats in the country, which have prompted operations. The recovery is the latest in a series of incidents in the area.

The border region has borne the brunt of repeated attacks from the militants who are at times aided by locals.

Somalia has not had a stable government after the fall of Siad Barre in 1991.

The area is near the Somalia border and the militants usually cross at will and stage attacks before escaping back.

Al-Shabaab terrorists have been attacking places in the region, especially in Mandera and Garissa counties after breaching security zones, which left dozens of civilians and security officials dead and wounded.

The terrorists have been planting explosives on the routes used by the security agencies.

Kenyan troops are in Somalia to pursue and suppress the activities of the terror group.

Kenya has upped their operations targeting the militants. In the process, dozens of militants have been killed.
