The new Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea has been sworn in to replace former DG John Barorot who resigned over three months ago.

Kapkea was sworn in at a ceremony outside the county headquarters presided over by High Court Judge Robert Wananda and Deputy Registrar Carolyne Watimah.

Also present was the presiding judge in Eldoret Reuben Nyakundi, Justice Jane Onyango and Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyani among others.

Kapkea said he Is indebted to Governor Jonathan Bii for appointing him to serve as deputy governor after the exit of Barorot.

“As our governor, I will serve you faithfully as your deputy and support you to deliver on your Nguzo Kumi agenda for the county,” said Kapkea.

Kapkea who formerly served as MCA for Tembelio ward said he would also serve residents of Uasin Gishu with dedication.

He said as a youthful leader, he will strive hard to ensure residents of the region enjoy quality services from the county.

Bii said he had confidence in Kapkea to help him discharge his mandate as governor.

“I know as deputy governor I know you have the capacity for hard work and I trust we will work together as a team for the people of Uasin Gishu,” said Bii.

Bii said apart from service to residents, they will also work for continued peace and unity in the region.

The governor said his administration had already made great achievements in implementing development programmes under the Nguzo Kumi (ten-point) agenda.

He said hospitals in the region were now in better condition with adequate supply of drugs and other necessities.

“We have also made great achievements in the education sector especially ECDE where we have increased enrolment and hired over 2,000 teachers on permanent terms”, said Bii.

Kapkea’s swearing had been delayed for over a month due to the delayed gazettement of his name in the absence of the IEBC.

Governor Bii had to file a petition before Justice Nyakundi who issued orders that led to Kapkea’s name being gazzeted in readiness for the swearing.

“We had really waited for the swearing and we are happy that it has finally happened so that we can now focus on work," said Bii.

He also thanked his former DG Barorot for the roles he played in the county before exiting for greener pastures in the ICT sector.

The swearing was also attended by other deputy governors including Yulita Mitei of Nandi, phillomena Kapkory of Trans Nzoia and Grace Cheserek of Elgeyo Marakwet
