A motor vehicle driver died in a tragic road accident along Raila Odinga Road in Nairobi on Saturday morning.
According to police, the car was from Nairobi City Centre heading towards T-Mall when the driver lost control under unclear circumstances and veered off the road.
The vehicle then hit a post and plunged into a ditch.
The car was extensively damaged leaving those aboard injured, police said.
Police say, an unidentified male driver, was critically injured in the crash and was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital for emergency medical treatment where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
According to police officers, two other male passengers were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police identified one of the passengers as Simon Kyalo however the other passenger remains unidentified.
Both men sustained bruises from the accident and were also taken to Mbagathi Hospital for care, police said.
Police say the two men were intoxicated at the time of the accident and in a strange turn of events, both passengers fled the hospital while being treated, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
The scene was visited by Langata police station officers, and a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
The body of the deceased driver was moved to the same mortuary.
Police officers are working on piecing together the circumstances surrounding the crash including whether the driver was intoxicated.
Police say the cause of the accident remains unclear.
However, they suspect that the driver's loss of control combined with the vehicle’s speed and possible alcohol impairment may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
