Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared a message of gratitude to the people of Embu following a warm reception they accorded him during his attendance at the consecration and installation of Catholic Bishop Peter Kimani.

The former DP who attended the event held at Embu University was humbled by the demonstration of affection by the people of Embu when his name was recognised among the dignitaries present.

Also present were President William Ruto, his deputy Kithure Kindiki and fourth President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Though he did not get a chance to speak at the event,  Gachagua was contended with the demonstration of love the people of Embu showed him.

"Thank you so much the people of Embu for the love and warm reception. I love you too," Gachagua said on his social media.

Accompanying the message was a video of the catholic congregation going wild after Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria recognised him among the leaders present.

The wild cheers accorded to Gachagua earned him a huge political statement to the effect that it demonstrated he had the support of the people despite being hounded out of office through impeachment.

The DP has already challenged the impeachment process in court in a bid to salvage his political career.

At the event, it was only him and former President Uhuru who were accorded wild cheers upon the mention of their names.

While exiting the event, the two leaders were accompanied by a mammoth crowd that sang their names in a show of solidarity.

Political commentators have opined that the treatment the two were accorded was a message to top government officials.

The ceremony drew a large crowd, including prominent figures from both the religious and political spheres including bishops, priests, deacons and other members of the laity.

Before his installation as the new Catholic Bishop of Embu, Bishop Kimani took oath of office.

Archbishop Muheria emphasised the importance of faith, service and leadership in guiding the Catholic faithful of Embu County.

Uhuru in his brief remarks congratulated Bishop Kimani on his elevation and expressed confidence in his leadership abilities.

He also reiterated his commitment to supporting the Church’s mission, especially in areas of education, health, and social justice.

Ahead of the installation, Gachagua went big on Biblical quotes, highlighting Mathew 9: 37 and 38.

"He said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field," the former DP said while quoting the scriptures.

The former DP has heightened public engagements in Mt Kenya and has been attending social events including church and funeral services.

Last week, Gachagua asked Mt Kenya Gen Z to register as voters and wait for his political direction at the right time ahead of the 2027 polls.

As the service concluded, Archbishop Muheria led a prayer for peace, unity and prosperity for the diocese under Bishop Kimani's leadership.

The faithful were also encouraged to continue their support for the new bishop as he began his journey in shepherding the diocese.
