Moi University VC Professor Isaac Kosgey was Wednesday subjected to a day-long interview and statement recording at the EACC offices in Eldoret.

Kosgey arrived at the offices by 9.30 am and was yet to leave by 7.30 pm.

He, however, left the EACC offices minutes before 8 pm during which he briefly addressed the media.

“We came to shed light on the projects that are ongoing at the university. We have had very nice interactions. We have clarified issues and we say thank you to them for giving us a chance to clarify the issues,” Kosgey said.

He said he will soon invite the media to the university during which he will issue further clarification on matters affecting the institution.

The EACC says it has so far recorded 59 statements at Moi University over Sh2.2 billion projects.

The commission says that following increasing media inquiries and the public interest arising from the allegations of financial mismanagement in Moi University, it has seized the matter and investigations are ongoing.

EACC says it commenced investigations in June 2024 upon receipt of a report that some Senior Management Officials at Moi University had in collusion with private consultants hatched a scheme that could have led to loss of funds.

The report further alleged that in the implementation of its development projects, Moi University procured private consultants at an exorbitant cost, deliberately avoiding the free services of existing Government Professionals from the Ministry of Public Works.

“Notably, the consultants who have been engaged by the University over the last 7 years, are reported to have been aiding top University Officials to execute loss of funds through infrastructural projects,” the commission said.

As part of the ongoing investigations, the Commission interviewed and recorded a Statement from the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kosgei, who is CEO and Accounting Officer of the Institution.

In addition, the Commission has invited four Members of the University Council believed to be in possession of crucial information to aid the investigation.

The outcome of the investigation will inform appropriate action against any persons found culpable, in accordance with the law.

The Commission expects the University to fully cooperate and support the investigations to ensure expeditious completion of the matter.
