Four die in separate suspected drowning incidents
At least four people were found dead after they drowned separately.
The incidents were reported in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area, Thika and Nyamira.
In Nyamira’s Nyamokeri village, the decomposing body of an unidentified middle-aged male was found in a borehole within a residential home.
It is presumed he drowned on November 19.
However, police said they are open to a murder investigation.
The body was discovered after a foul smell emanated from the 30-foot-deep borehole when the locals fetched water.
Residents had been using the water not knowing the body was lying in the well.
The decomposing body, which had no physical injuries was removed and moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification.
Police said they are investigating both murder and drowning as possible causes of the incident.
Elsewhere, police said a group collecting bottles on Nairobi River in Kamukunji area spotted a body of a man floating on the water.
Police were called and declared the unidentified man was aged about 45.
His body had no visible injuries when it was picked up from the water on November 19 evening.
Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.
The body was moved to the City morgue awaiting identification and postmortem examination.
In the Mugutha area, Thika, a nine-year-old boy drowned in an uncompleted pit latrine that had water.
A group of children had been playing at the pit latrine within a school when the boy drowned.
The other children raised an alarm alerting locals who rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of the boy.
The divers from the Kiambu rescue team managed to retrieve the body, which had no physical injuries.
The body was moved to the General Kago Hospital mortuary Thika awaiting postmortem examination.
In the same area, a man drowned while swimming in the offshores of Ruera Dam.
Police visited the scene and established that the deceased Moses Omudi, 28 had drowned while swimming in the company of his brother.
The divers from the Kiambu rescue team retrieved the body which had no physical injuries, police said adding it was taken to the General Kago Hospital Mortuary Thika awaiting postmortem.
Police say some of the cases assumed as drowning turn out to be murder and hence they are paying attention to the ones reported.
