Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) acting CEO Jude Chesire has been elected the vice chairman of the Administrative Committee of the International Sugar Organisation
Chesire was elected to the position during the council meeting held on November 29, 2024, at the One Canada Square Canary Wharf London, UK.
The 33rd International Sugar Organisation conference held from November 25-29, 2024, was themed "Sustainable solutions for sugar and energy."
Players in the industry from across the world gathered for the event, where presentations aimed at steering the growth of sugar and sugar products were made.
This is the first time Kenya and Africa is holding the
position since the inception of ISO in 1968. It marked a big achievement for Kenya
and also Africa in the sugar sector.
Edga Herrera from Costa Rico (Executive Director LAICA) was elected chairman.
They take over from Sanjiv Chopra from India (Minister for Food and Distribution in India) and Mr.
The Council is the highest decision-making organ of the
International Sugar Organisation for the world sugar sector, where 114
countries are represented among them Brazil, India, the EU, Thailand, the UK, South
Africa, and Australia among other key sugar and ethanol players
The International Sugar Organisation serves as an intergovernmental entity facilitating global collaboration within the sugar sector.
With member countries spanning the globe, the organisation assumes a critical role in tackling challenges and fostering cooperation to uphold the stability and sustainability of the worldwide sugar market.
Moreover, the ISO stands as a unique intergovernmental body committed to enhancing conditions within the global sugar market through debate, analysis, special studies, transparent statistics, seminars, conferences and workshops.
The ISO is the only worldwide forum for the exchange of
views by major producing, consuming and trading countries at an
intergovernmental level.
Council sessions, held twice a year in May and November, afford the opportunity for policy issues to be debated at a multi-lateral level.
