Narc Kenya (now People’s Liberation Party) leader Martha Karua now says that the Opposition candidates will support one candidate as their flag bearer.

In a statement on X, Karua said that in the meantime, they can all continue popularising their own parties ahead of the next general elections.

She insisted that the country is bigger than all the leaders.

“Let every spirant grow their brand knowing at the back of their minds that Kenya is bigger than any one of us and that towards the end we will all converge and agree on a single candidate,” Karua said.

Her sentiments followed a question by an X user who said if all opposition candidates choose to vie for the presidency in 2027, there would be no clear winner in the first round.

The user said the election would be won on a run-off after President William Ruto will have a working agreement with some of the aspirants.

“My question is, what if Mt Kenya fronts Martha Karua as their preferred candidate? Kalonzo goes alone? Okiya goes alone and Matiang'i goes alone? Then Ruto and Raila on the other side. There will be no winner in the first round. Ruto will win the rerun. He will buy some people,” Collins McArum wrote.

This comes even as Opposition leaders continue to push for alliances ahead of the next general elections.

Already, Karua has met with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and they have both agreed to work together towards 2027.

After their meeting, they vowed to unite the Mt Kenya region and the country at large.

The two made the announcement when  Gachagua visited Karua at her rural Kimunye home in Kirinyaga County.

Gachagua, who was recently kicked out as the UDA deputy party leader is expected to unveil his political party next month.

Speaking at Karua's home, Gachagua said Martha’s dedication to public service and tireless fight for justice had earned his respect.

"This is despite the fact that we often find ourselves on opposite ends of the political spectrum,'' Gachagua said.

Gachagua said that he had come to the realisation, that as much as political rivalry might frequently overshadow the possibility of collaboration, there are always opportunities to work together.

Karua said they will be putting the people first in all the steps they will make.

"I salute your courage and resilience in the face of adversity, qualities that we need as we fulfil our joint commitment to rally together leaders from across the nation, to address the many challenges facing the people of Kenya,'' Karua said.

"I look forward to working with you and wish you well in all your endeavours. It was my honour and pleasure to host you, dear brother."

The former DP has also reached out to former Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, among others.
