The Kenya Railways has announced the resumption of the Kisumu Safari train service.
KR in a statement on Tuesday also highlighted key issues to be taken into account by travellers.
“We are pleased to announce that our Kisumu Safari train
service has resumed,” the statement stated.
According to KR, travelers from Nairobi will have to board three trains consecutively from Nairobi Central Station to Kisumu.
Travelers with luggage are also advised to carry luggage that should not exceed a width of 160cm and a length of 200cm.
Travelers boarding the economy class have been advised to pay
tickets which will cost Sh900 while those in first class to pay Sh2400.
The train will depart the Nairobi Central Station every Friday at 4 pm in the evening and arrive at Kisumu station on Saturday morning.
Those who will be using the train are advised to keep time and be at the
station at least one hour before departure time to avoid inconvenience.
According to the route map schedule provided, the commuter train will depart from Nairobi Central Station at 4 pm.
"Passengers will depart Nairobi Terminus aboard Madaraka Express train to Maai Mahiu station at 5:20 pm," it says.
Passengers will then board an MGR train and depart at 6:55 pm.
The train will be expected to arrive at Kisumu station at 6:30 am.
This comes as good news as a majority of Kenyans prepare to travel this festive season.
The resumption of the Kisumu safari train service will
officially resume on December 6, KR said.

Safari train, one can contact 0709 907 000, 0115102558 or 0748961796 or visit

The use of railway services is expected to reduce the congestion of
travellers traveling by road during this festive period.
Travelers at the first class will be able to enjoy first-class services which will be offered while travelling.
Earlier this year the Kenya Railways services announced strategic
plans that will see it roll out massive reforms to boost transport services.
The plan involved the acquisition of 480 wagons to increase its capacity to transport passengers and cargo and the rehabilitation of various routes.
