Four people drown in separate incidents

At least four people were separately found drowned in incidents reported to police.

Police attribute the incidents to ongoing rains experienced in different parts of the country.

This came as the government disclosed at least 12 people had been killed and thousands displaced in flooding incidents reported so far in the past two weeks.

The first drowning incident was reported in Galole at the Tana River on Wednesday.

A decomposing male body was found at Emmaus village, police said.

The body had been swept downstream to the area and was identified as that of Gilbert Buya who had been reported missing on December 1, police said.

The body was found floating on the shores of the river and picked up to the mortuary for other procedures.

In Msambweni, Kwale County, a 14-year-old boy drowned while he and his colleagues went fishing in the Indian Ocean.

Police said the incident happened in Bondo after strong ocean tides swept him away.

Police officers and members of the public who responded to the incident staged a search and the body was found at the edge of the shores.

The body was retrieved and moved to Msambweni County referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

In the Nambale area, Busia County, the body of a man was found in the Suo River.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the body of an unknown male adult had already decomposed beyond recognition and was stuck on the shores of the river.

The body was moved to the Busia Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.

Elsewhere in Mweiga, Kieni, Nyeri County, a body was found on the Honi River in Kiawara village.

 Police officers visited the scene, and with help from members of the public, they managed to retrieve the body which was later identified to be of Joseph Irungu.

The body was moved to Nyeri County referral hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

Meanwhile, police are investigating two separate murder incidents in Rongo, Migori County and Nyamira County.

In Rongo, the body of one Rawlings Ooko, 22 was found in his house after suspected murder.

The body had several physical injuries on the mouth, chest, and abdomen, police said.

The body was moved to Homab Bay Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established, police said.

In Nyamira’s Magwagwa area, the body of a man was found in Chisaria village.

Police officers visited the scene and established that Ezra Tochi, 27, was brutally killed by unknown assailants.

The body with physical hands and head injury was moved to Ibara Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

The hunt for the suspected assailant is ongoing, police said.
